Simmons drops 29 on Fort Scott in 83-49 road victory

OVERLAND PARK, Kan – Johnson County Community College sophomore guard Nariyah Simmons poured in a career-high 29 points to power the No.3-ranked Lady Cavaliers to an 83-49 road victory over Fort Scott on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Johnson County improved to 24-0 on the season, and 9-0 in conference play.

Simmons drained 11-of-15 shots, including 6-of-8 beyond the 3-point line. Her previous high was 27 points in win over Southwestern early in the season. 

Sophomore guard Aryannah Harrison also finished in double figure with 17 points. She was 7-for-15 shooting with a 3-pointer.

Sophomore forward LaJahda Boyland flirted with a double-double, finishing with eight points and a game-high eight rebounds.

Other key efforts were turned by freshman guard Saige Grampsas (8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals), freshman guard Jazzy Klinge (6 points, 7 rebounds), freshman forward Grace Lynch (7 points, 3 rebounds) and sophomore guard Lisa Thomas (6 points, 6 rebounds).

Johnson County travels to Parsons, Kan., on Wednesday night to take on No. 6-ranked Labette (19-4/8-1). JCCC defeated the Cardinals in overtime 65-61 on January 21 in Overland Park.
