OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team remained perfect at 12-0 with a 65-45 victory over Metropolitan Community College Tuesday night at JCCC Gymnasium.
The Lady Cavaliers defense was the key to the victory. In the second quarter, JCCC held the Wolves to just four points all from free throws. Metropolitan went 0-for-16 shooing the quarter and shot 26 percent overall for the game.
Johnson County sophomore guard Krystal Rice led all scorers with 17 points. She was 6-of-10 shooting, with five 3-point baskets.
Sophomore guard Christen Curry added nine points and nine rebounds. Forward KK Jackson-Morris and freshman guard LaJahda Boyland each contributed eight points.
Last week's KJCCC D-II Player of the Week Dallie Hoskinson was held to just two points, but did grab nine boards and dish out six assists.
Kianna Lane led Metropolitan with 10 points.
Johnson County will face its toughest test of the season on Friday when the take on No. 5 ranked and unbeaten Lincoln Land Community College (9-0) in Quincy, Ill., in the first game of the John Wood Classic. On Saturday, the Lady Cavaliers will take host John Wood Community College (2-8) at 3 p.m.
