Lady Cavaliers easily handle Fort Scott 86-34

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 6-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team improved to 22-3 on the season and to 5-2 in conference play with an 86-34 blowout victory at Fort Scott on Wednesday night. It was the Lady Cavaliers fourth straight win since falling at home 66-63 in overtime to Labette on January 29. 

In the win over Fort Scott, Johnson County outscored the Greyhounds 16-5 in the first quarter, then blew the game open with a 26-to-6 second quarter. The Greyhounds 34 points are the fifth lowest total in the 86-game series, and it marked the 10th time they have scored under 40 in the 12-year career of JCCC head coach Ben Conrad. 

Sophomore forward KK Jackson-Morris paced Johnson Count with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting. She was 4-of-6 beyond the arc and 2-of-3 at the line. She also grabbed five rebounds and had two steals. 

Sophomore guard Dallie Hoskinson registered her seventh double-double of the year with 16 points and 12 rebounds. She was 6-of-8 shooting with a 3-pointer, and 3-of-3 at the line. She also dished out a team high five assists. 

Freshman guard Jaylen Townsend added 13 points off the bench. She was 4-of-9 from the field with a trey, and 4-of-6 at the charity stripe. 

Sophomore guards Christen Curry and Amber Kettering put up solid numbers as well. Curry contributed nine points and five rebounds, and Kettering finished with eight points and four boards. 

Labette was able to contain JCCC's leading scorer Krystal Rice.  This week's Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference Player of the Week was held to just seven points, her second lowest total of the season. 

Destiny Ellis led the Greyhounds with 15 points, followed by Amber Covington with 10. 

Johnson County travels to Parsons, Kan., to take on the No. 5-ranked Labette Cardinals on Saturday, February 15. Labette defeated the Lady Cavaliers 65-63 in overtime on January 29. The Cardinals took over sole possession of first place in the conference standings at 6-1 after a 75-62 win at No. 8 Highland Wednesday night. Johnson County and Highland are tied for second at 5-2.
