OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County freshman guard Layla Scott scored a season-high 30 points to power the No. 2-ranked Cavaliers to a 77-41 victory over cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas on Saturday afternoon at the JCCC Gymnasium.
Scott connected of 9-of-22 shots, including seven from 3-point range, and made 5-of-6 attempts at the free throw line to better her previous season-high by three points. She also led the team with five assists.
Also finishing in double digits were freshman guard Tamia Smith with 11 points along with eight rebounds, followed by sophomore guard Taliyah Scott with 10. Sophomore forward Yar Manyiel was the top rebounder with nine.
With the victory Johnson County head coach Ben Conrad moves one victory away from securing his 500th as the Cavaliers head coach. His team will attempt to reach that milestone on Wednesday, February 12 at the No.8-ranked Highland Scotties. JCCC comes in undefeated at 25-0 overall and 9-0 in conference play. Highland stands 21-2 overall.
