JCCC women’s basketball complete undefeated regular season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – For the second consecutive season and fourth time under head coach Ben Conrad the Johnson County women's basketball team completed the regular season undefeated after an 82-33 blowout at Hesston on Wednesday night. JCCC has also won five straight Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II titles.

Freshman guard Layla Scott led four Cavaliers in double figures with 16 points on 6-of-16 shooting. She also drained three 3-point baskets to bring her season total to 103 which leads the conference and ranks third in the NJCAA.

Freshman forward Tamia Smith followed with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Freshman Kara Stricklin drained three treys to post 11 points and sophomore forward Yar Manyiel, the reigning KJCCC D-II Player of the Week, posted her third straight double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Other key efforts were turned by freshman guard Jamya McPherson (8 points, 4 rebounds), sophomore guard Taliyah Scott (6 points, 6 assists) and sophomore guard Maizen Williams (7 points).

Hesston had two players post double digits scoring led by Akiva Brown with 12 points, followed by Anna Mcintire with 10.

Johnson County will return to the floor on Friday, March 7 in the semifinals of the Region 6 Tournament. They will host the winner of Highland/Kansas City Kansas.
