JCCC breezes to a 58-point victory over Iowa Lakes

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Six players, including all five starters, finished in double figures as the No. 2-ranked Johnson County Community College women's basketball team rolled to a 100-42 victory over Iowa Lakes Community College Friday evening at the JCCC Gymnasium. With the victory, the Lady Cavaliers extended their home court win streak to 73 straight games. 

Sophomore forward Yar Manyiel led the way with 18 points, connecting on 9-of-12 shot attempts. She also was the game's top rebounder hauling down eight boards. 

Sophomore guard Taliyah Scott and freshman guard Layla Scott each finished with 15 points. Taliyah was 5-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. She also tallied five assists and five steals. Layla hits 6-of-12 shots with two treys. She too had five assists along with five rebounds. 

Rounding out the starters were sophomore guard Maizen Williams with 14 and freshman guard Tamia Smith with 10. Williams was 6-of-12 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers and Smith was a perfect 4-for-4 with two free throws. She also grabbed six boards.

Leading the bench was freshman guard Jamya McPherson with 14 points, making 6-of-9 shot attempts and two free throws.

Johnson County shot 53 percent as a team and outrebounded the Lakers 42-to-28. 

The Lady Cavaliers (3-0) return the hardwood Saturday evening when they host Southwestern Community College (1-2) at 4 p.m. The Spartans suffered an 85-57 loss earlier in the day to Highland Community College.
