JCCC holds off No. 19 Rock Valley 69-58 to extend home court streak to 77 straight

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Facing a ranked opponent for a second straight day, the No. 2 Johnson County Community College women's basketball team managed to hold off No. 19 Rock Valley College's upset bid for a 69-58 victory.  With the win, JCCC extended its home court win streak to 77 straight games and remain unbeaten at 8-0. 

Out of the game the Lady Cavaliers were quickly facing a 9-0 deficit after Rock Valley knocked down three long range shots in the first two minutes after the opening tip. 

Freshman guard Tamia Smith got the Lady Cavaliers on the board with a 3-pointer then freshman guard Layla Scott scored JCCC's next 10 points to pull her team to within a point at 14-13.

Rock Valley freshman forward Alisha Bell drained her third 3-pointer of the quarter to the Golden Eagles up 17-13, but the Lady Cavaliers responded with a 10-0 run to close out the quarter for a 23-17 lead and would not trail again in the game.

Johnson County's starters accounted for 56 of the team's 69 points. Scott finished the game as JCCC's leading scorer with 17 points. Smith followed with 12 and 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. 

Sophomore guard Maizen Williams tallied 11 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Yar Manyiel contributed eight points, and eight rebounds and sophomore guard Taliyah Scott flirted with a triple-double with eight points, eight assists and seven rebounds.

Freshman Kara Stricklin added eight points and two boards to lead the reserves. 

Rock Valley sophomore guard Mia Moore reached season average with a game-high 25 points to lead the Golden Eagles. She was the only player to post double digits. 

Johnson County heads to Des Moines, Iowa this weekend for two games at the Des Moines Area Community College Classic. They face Midland University JV on Friday, November 22 and take don Rochester Community and Technical College on Saturday, November 23.
