Women’s basketball jumps up to No. 2 in the nation

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – After a 5-0 start to the 2019-20 season, the Johnson County Community College women's basketball jumped six spots from is preseason ranking to No. 2 in the NJCAA D-II national poll released Nov. 11. 

Johnson County has a long history of appearing in the national rankings, particularly under the direction of 12-year head coach Ben Conrad. His teams have been ranked nationally in 135 of 146 polls (92%), and have been in the top five 114 of 146 polls. (78%). Johnson County has held the No. 1 ranking 52 times under his watch, including seven polls last season. 

Kirkwood Community College moved up one spot to grab the No. 1 spot in this week's poll, replacing defending national champion Kansas City Kansas who dropped to No. 4 after suffering a loss to the Eagles last week. North Iowa Area Community College is ranked third and Lincoln Land Community College rounds out the top 5 at No. 5. 

Through five games, sophomore forward KK Jackson-Morris is the team's leading scorer at 17.0 per game. She is shooting 52 percent from both the field and 3-point range. 

Sophomore guards Krystal Rice and Dallie Hoskinson are close behind at 14.4 and 13.0 points per game. Hoskinson is also averaging 8.6 rebounds and 6.0 assists. 

The Lady Cavaliers top rebounder is freshman LaJahda Boyland at 10.8 per game. She is just shy of averaging a double-double, as she pours in 9.8 points per contest. 

Johnson County's next three games are at home beginning with Missouri Valley College Purple Reserve on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m. St. Louis Community College comes to town on Saturday, Nov. 18 for 2 p.m., tip and the Lady Cavaliers will host the Orange Reserve team for Missouri Valley College in Monday, Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m.
