JCCC women’s basketball improves to 12-0 with a pair of blowout wins over the weekend

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 4-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team remained perfect on the 2022-23 season after posting a pair double digit victories over the weekend. JCCC handed Kaskaskia a 62-39 loss on Friday night in the first game of the John Wood Classic, and capped the weekend in with a dominating 103-30 win over Sauk Valley. With the two wins the Lady Cavaliers improved to 12-0. 

In the win over Kaskaskia, sophomore guard Nariyah Simmons recorded her first career double-double, finishing with 13 points and rebounds. She also had four assists and two steals. 

Sophomore guard Lisa Thomas was the game's top scorer with 15 points, and sophomore guard Mackenzie Hart followed with 12 points.

Freshman Jazzy guard Jazzy Klinge was the top player off the bench with seven points and eight boards. 

Against Sauk Valley, Simmons, Thomas and Hart were again finished in double figures, along with freshman guard Summer Wieneke.  Simmons led the way with 19 points hitting 9-of-14 shots. She also added four rebounds, three assists and three steals. 

Thomas followed with 17 points and recorded a game-high seven steals.  Hart finished with 14 points and nine assists, and Wieneke established a new season highs with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. 

Freshman guard Tamara Harris-Webster had a solid game off the bench finishing with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting. 

The Lad Cavaliers will close out the first half of their season with a home game on Saturday, December 10 at  1 p.m., against Saint Mary JV followed by a road contest Wednesday, December 14 in Miami, Fla., against Miami Dade College. They open the second half of the season at home against Metropolitan Community College on Thursday, January 5 at 5:30 p.m.
