Josh Boland returns to the bench for the Johnson County Community College women’s basketball program. This will be his sixth year with the program. He previously served five seasons as an assistant coach from 2014-19. Boland will assist in scouting opponents and running the scout team in practice sessions. 

Last year Boland served as an assistant coach/graduate assistant at Henderson State University, helping the Reddies to a 20-12 record, a Greater American Conference Tournament championship and berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament. 

Prior to Henderson State, Boland worked in admissions at Drury University and Kansas State University. From 2019 to 2021, He served as a student assistant at Pittsburg State University. The Gorilla’s went 17-11 in 2019-20 and 14-9 in 2020-21.

In his five seasons on staff, the Lady Cavaliers program won 89 percent of its games (150-19), two conference titles, qualified for two NJCAA National Tournaments, captured a national championship in 2015 and finished runner-up in 2017. The programs also produced three NJCAA All-Americans (Nieka Wheeler, Erica Nelson, Austin Richardson), three WBCA All-Americans (Nieka Wheeler, Erica Nelson, Jaci Stowers), five NJCAA All-Tournament selections, one national tournament MVP (Nieka Wheeler), 15 All-Region 6 performers, 17 all-conference picks, including one conference MVP (Austin Richardson) and a defensive player of the year (Tristen McFeeders). 

In 2018-19, Johnson County raced out of the game winning 22 straight and held the No. 1 ranking for each of the first seven polls of the season. The team went on to post a 27-5 mark and ranked 10th in the final NJCAA D-II Poll. Paige Elston, KK Jackson-Morris and Jaci Stowers were named as all-conference performers. Elston and Stowers were also named to the All-Region 6 team and Stowers selected as an All-American by the WBCA 

In 2017-18, Johnson County finished 25-8 and ranked 11th in the final NJCAA D-II Poll, however the team’s string of 30-win seasons was snapped at eight. The team also tied for second in the conference and reached the Region 6 championship game, falling to No. 3 ranked Highland. Four different players earned postseason recognition. Tristen McFeders, Cerena Reeves and Kylee Williams were selected all conference, and McFeders was voted the defensive player of the year. McFeders and Reeves also were All-Region VI picks, along with Paige Elston. 

The 2016-17 team finished 33-3, ranked third in the final national poll, won conference and region titles, and finished runner-up at the 2017 NJCAA D-II Tournament. The season also saw four players earn all-conference and All-Region VI, and Austin Richardson was selected the league’s MVP and earned first-team NJCAA All-America honors. The program also extended its string of 30-win seasons to a NJCAA record eight straight years. 

In 2015-16, Johnson County held the No. 1 ranking in all 12 NJCAA regular season polls and completed an unblemished 30-0 record during the regular season. They went on to finish 31-1, falling 63-56 to Kansas City Kansas in the Region 6 Championship and ranked third in the final season national poll. Erica Nelson was selected as a first-team All-American by both the NJCAA and WBCA. She along with teammates Shelby Dahl, Chasity Franklin, Bh’ea Griffin and Kayonna Lee were honored as all-conference performers. 

In 2014-15, Boland’s first on staff, Johnson County reached 30 wins for a record sixth straight season, setting a new record with 34 victories. The team’s 34th win was a 66-64 win over Parkland to win the 2015 NJCAA Division II National Championship. The team was ranked in the top 10 in all 13 polls, including spending seven weeks at No. 1. The season also saw Nieka Wheeler earn NJCAA and WBCA All-America honors, and win the national tournament MVP award, a first in team history. 

When Boland joined the staff in 2014-15, he was no stranger to the program. He spent three seasons as a student manager for Conrad, serving from 2008-11. 

While serving as manager at Johnson County, Boland was part of a program that posted a record of 81-23 in three years, including back-to-back 30-win seasons in 2009-10 and 

2010-11.  In the 2010-11 season, the team won a school record 32 games and was ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 nationally for 15 weeks. The team also won three Region VI D-II titles and made two appearances in the NJCAA D-II National Tournament. 

A native of Overland Park, Kan., Boland attended Olathe East High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Pittsburg State University in 2021 and a Master of Science in Sports Administration from Henderson State University in December 2024.
