13th Season

Carlos Moore enters his 13th season as a member of the Johnson County women’s basketball staff, and his 14th season in the JCCC Athletics Department. Moore assists with on-court coach and scouting for the Lady Cavalier. In addition to his coaching duties, Moore also serves as an event worker for the JCCC Athletics Department and is a monitor in the Fitness Center.

With Moore on staff, the Lady Cavaliers program has captured one NJCAA Division II National Championship three NJCAA Division II National Tournament runner-up finishes, seven NJCAA Region 6/District Championships and eight Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Championships. In addition, JCCC has won 90.7 percent of its games (402-41) while qualifying for the NJCAA National Tournament a total of seven times with six top five finishes during Moore’s staff tenure.  The program has also appeared in 156-of-157 (99.4%) NJJCAA Coaches Polls, including 138 times in the Top-five (88%), with 68 times at No. 1 in the country (43%).

In addition to the team accomplishments during Moore’s stint on the staff, the program has also produced 16 NJCAA All-Americans, 14 WBCA All-Americans, one NJCAA D-II National Player of the Year (Jaylen Townsend), 10 World Exposure Report Sophomore of the Year (KK Jackson-Morris-2020, Kyrstal Rice-2020, LaJahdaBoyland-2021, Jaylen Townsend-2021 & 2022), Kierra Prim-2022, Mackenzie Hart-2023, Nariyah Simmons-2023, Saige Grampsas-2024, Jazzy Klinge-2024), two NJCAA All-Stars (LaJahda Boyland-2021, Jaylen Townsend-2021), 42 All-Region VI performers, 44 All-East Jayhawk Conference selections, six conference MVPs (DaShawn Harden-2013, Juanita Robinson-2014, Austin Richardson-2017, Jaylen Townsend-2021, Kierra Prim-2022, Mackenzie Hart-2023),  three conference defensive players of the year (Tristen McFeedres-2018, Nariyah Simmons -2022), two freshmen of the year (Nieka Wheeler, 2014, Nariyah Simmons-2022, Amani Henry-2024), 10 national All-Tournament picks, and one national tournament MVP (Nieka Wheeler-2015).

Prior to joining the women’s program, Moore served three seasons as an assistant coach under JCCC Hall of Fame coach Mike Jeffers. In his three seasons, the Cavaliers posted a .612 winning percentage (60-38), and won a National Championship.

Individually, he helped coach one of the most decorated players in JCCC history. In 2009, Nafis Ricks was selected to the NJCAA D-II first-team, becoming the second player in NJCAA D-II history to earn first-team honors in back-to-back seasons. Ricks also was selected the National Player of the Year by the NJCAA and National Association of Basketball Coaches.   Overall, JCCC athletes garnered two All-American, nine All-Region VI and five All-East Jayhawk Conference honors in his three seasons with the men.
